Methacillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA)

The problem of the asymtomatic patient colonized with MRSA is not uncommon. Again the patient is not septic or even symptomatic. We typically introduce Bactrim DS and or Doxycycline 100 mg. We also try Intranasal Bactroban ointment and even chlorhexidine showers for 15 days. Reculturing patients several times is often necessary to consider the patient “clear”. If we are still having issues, adding Clindamycin, Keflex, or Rifampin may be reasonable.
